Will you go to the ball?

JEWELRY HOUSE "VAN CLEEF & ARPELS" CONTINUES EXCURSION TO HISTORY, THE EXTREME OF WHICH HAS BEEN OWNED BY HIM FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS. IN THIS SEASON, MASTERS DIPPED into the ATMOSPHERE OF LUXURY BALLS OF THE XX CENTURY AND RECOVERED THE BEAUTY OF DANCE AND BALL DRESSES IN JEWELERY FROM RARE STONES AND PRECIOUS METALS.

The legendary and richest balls of the last century have become a fairy tale for inspiration, giving masters. In the UAE, as part of the first in the history of the city campaign “Designers in Dubai”, VCA jewelers presented their collection “Bals de Legende”, which, since its release in the fall of 2011, has already managed to acquire its own legends. Five different balls and five different scenarios carry us around the world - from London to New York, from Venice to St. Petersburg.

A ghost roams Europe

Two sets of five jewelry at once were inspired by the spirit of an old European woman. In 1951, the Party of the Century ball was held in Venice in the manner of the famous carnival, and 20 years later the Proust Ball was given at the Ferriere Castle near Paris. The main character of each of these collections is a brooch in the form of dance-pike.

At the Venetian carnival, Colombine soloed in a dress inlaid with pink and blue sapphires, at the centenary ball in honor of Marcel Proust - his legendary Rosmond diamond hat, a dress made of lacquered mother of pearl with pearl decoration.

The original rings are included with them: the Miss Audrey ring with large pearls in frills of white and pink diamond pavé on pink gold from the Paris collection, the Bauta ring with onyx masks and a huge sapphire from Ceylon for connoisseurs of the Venetian masquerade.

New York, New York

One fine autumn evening of 1966, a city that never sleeps lit up with the lights of diamonds and gold. At Duncan Capote's Black and White party that night, Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo, Vivien Leigh and Frank Sinatra shone - the 500 brightest “stars” in the creative sky of the time.

The "heroine" of the jewelry line is a brooch-dancer in a dress of white diamonds and black onyx. Her “gentleman” is the Abstraction ring in the Art Deco style, in the center of which there is a 15 carat diamond, which even from the point of view of jewelry professionals is inexorably striving for perfection.

Imperial Petersburg

The 1903 Christmas ball at the Winter Palace was the last show of jewels in the Russian Imperial House. "A mass of old national costumes - sundresses, soul-makers, panevos and kokoshniks, richly decorated with furs, magnificent diamonds, pearls and semiprecious stones, mostly in ancient frames. On this day, family jewelry appeared in such abundance that exceeded all expectations," - then the newspapers wrote.

The first batch at this ball is performed by a ballerina in a diamond pack and kokoshnik in the style of outfits of the era of the Russian tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. An equally valuable piece is the Providence ring with an emerald of 20 carats.

With slanting and greedy eyes

Mysterious Asia has always attracted Europeans, and in the 60s of the last century, the southeastern countries became a place of constant pilgrimage to the "golden youth", and life-goers, and the legendary Indiana Jones. In 1969, Indian elephants and servants of the great Raja became the heroines of the Oriental Ball in Paris.

In the minds of jewelers, this bacchanalia appeared in the form of a brooch in the form of an Indian dancer made of gold with white and yellow diamonds. Her faithful companion is a ring with a yellow sapphire in the shape of an elephant head.

In search of lost time

In order not to lose track of time, the ball could not do without luxury watches. They occupy no less honorable place in the collection “Bals de Legende”. Although they are designed to remind you of the most magnificent social events of the last century, they deserve to conquer a new time and space with you. In models with a diamond-cut dial, white gold predominates, and the straps are made from crocodile leather. So, behind the balls of the twentieth century, the curtain fell.

Those who managed to get in touch with their splendor splendor were incredibly lucky. Those who could not part of the beautiful will have to wait for the solemn sounds of fanfare, which will usher in the balls of our time. To the music!
