In UAE, pilots selectively tested for alcohol

UAE aviation authorities selectively tested pilots for alcohol intoxication.

Dubai, UAE. The UAE General Department of Civil Aviation has successfully completed spot checks on pilots for intoxication at all passenger airports in the country as part of a security program.

Inspections are aimed at ensuring control over air transport and reducing the risk of foreign ships appearing in the airspace of the UAE, whose pilots may be intoxicated. A total of 22 tests were conducted, appropriate penalties were applied to violators.

It is noted that if the level of alcohol in terms of the breathalyzer exceeds 0.02 grams, the pilot is not allowed to fly. A level of 20 mg is equivalent to the "zero tolerance" indicator adopted in most countries of the world, and a small error is allowed in connection with a possible "trace" from a mouthwash for medicines or drugs.
