UAE plans to ban school vans

In the United Arab Emirates discussing the abandonment of school minibuses.

The UAE Federal Road Traffic Council has discussed the ban on the use of passenger vans from January 2023. Schools will not be allowed to use minibuses to transport students by September 2021.

The proposal was voiced during a council meeting led by Major General Mohammed Saif Al-Zafin, the Deputy Chief of Police for Operations in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi police tightened licensing standards for 15-seater vehicles last year. Among other requirements for cars and pickups for transporting people there are special seat belts, an electronic brake system (EBS), the absence of additional seats inside the car and folding seats in the aisles.
