Dubai Emirates smart system will register passengers on their flights

Emirates passengers at Dubai Airport will be able to check in for their flight without staff.

Dubai-based Emirates is preparing to launch the world's first biometric system at Dubai International Airport, through which passengers can check-in for their flights “just by walking around the airport.” The system uses a combination of face recognition technology and the iris.

Equipment for reading biometric data has already been installed in Terminal 3 at special registration desks, in the Emirates Lounge in Hall B, as well as at individual gates.

After a series of tests, Emirates will soon begin testing technology at other key points in the airport - in the check-in hall, lounges and boarding gates, and then at racks and exits for transit passengers and for its car rental service with a driver.

Initially, the biometric data processing system is focused on passengers of the first and business classes, but in the future the airline intends to make it available to economy class guests. In addition, the technology will also apply to airports other than Dubai, as well as crew registration.

Adele Al Redha, Executive Vice President and COO of Emirates, said: "Emirates is constantly innovating and striving to improve day-to-day operations."

Major General Mohammed Ahmed Almarri of the General Directorate for Refugees and Aliens (GDRFA) said: "We are pleased to launch new initiatives in Terminal 3 in collaboration with Emirates."

According to the airline, the passenger tracking system will also increase security at the airport and allow the airline to help passengers arriving late for flights.

Dubai is also undergoing trials of the Smart Tunnel project, which was launched by GDRFA in collaboration with Emirates earlier in October. This is the first passport control in the world that passengers pass without personnel intervention and do not need a passport stamp.
