The most amazing month, or Ramadan in the UAE

On July 20, the holy month for all Muslims began, Ramadan, or the ninth lunar month according to the Hijra calendar. It traditionally differs from all the rest not only in that it is associated with daytime fasting for all the faithful, but also in that it dictates special rules of conduct and daily routines for all residents of Islamic countries belonging to other faiths, and for tourists arriving in these countries.

You need to know that at this time, most city cafes and restaurants are closed during the day, entertainment is replaced by educational programs, shows and entertainment in shopping centers are canceled. At the same time, all major complexes continue to work well beyond midnight during Ramadan, and the schedule of public transport is also changing. For all residents of the UAE, the working day is reduced by two hours: then all non-Muslims have the opportunity to safely get home to avoid the crowds and traffic jams that form before sunset, when all Muslims rush to prayer, followed by a ritual of conversation (iftar) . A pleasant fact is that prices for consumer goods in Ramadan are falling, also by 20-30%, hotel room rates are falling, and evenings are becoming time for meetings with friends and relatives for a festive meal. All hotels are equipped with special tents, which serve national dishes and a variety of drinks on the tables.

All tourists arriving in the United Arab Emirates during Ramadan must observe the following rules:

1. It is forbidden to eat, drink, smoke in public during daylight hours and appear in immodest clothing in public places throughout the month (it lasts 29-30 days);

1. Greetings and congratulations to all Muslims with the words "Ramadan Kareem" ("Generous Ramadan") and "Ramadan Mubarak" ("Blessed Ramadan") are allowed.

2. It is worth taking the opportunity to attend evening conversations ("iftar"). Every day, the end time of the post is shifted by one minute, and information about it is published in the daily press.

3. It is forbidden to listen to loud music and make noise at home or in the office.

4. It is recommended to devote this time to acquaintance with the culture, traditions and values of Islam, attend museums and educational seminars, Arabic language courses.

5. Be careful on the road: the number of traffic accidents may increase during Ramadan.

This year, the Dubai Event and Promotion Office (DEPE) is launching the Ramadan in Dubai initiative in collaboration with other government and commercial entities in the emirate. It aims to expand the understanding of all residents of the country and representatives of different cultures about Islamic values, traditions and customs. Leyla Suheil, chief executive officer of DEPE, noted that “Ramadan in Dubai” is a special case when the whole country unites for daily rituals of prayer, fasting and conversation. "In the next four weeks, Dubai will be immersed in Ramadan, providing everyone with the opportunity to gain and share an unforgettable experience after sunset." Particular attention this time will be given to the annual Dubai International Holy Quran Award, scheduled for the first 20 days of the holy month and awarded to the best readers of the Koran. In the shopping centers of the city, an Islamic choir will sing; Dubai Sports World gyms will also operate. Daily evening and morning calls can be made at the Dubai International Trade Center. There will continue its work the children's camp "Mir Modhesha", where attention will be paid to the religious education of the young generation of emirates.
