Dubai hosts Marie Antoinette jewelry exhibition

Decorations of the French Queen Marie Antoinette are exhibited in Dubai before the auction.

The jewelry of the Queen of France Marie Antoinette, stored for more than 200 years in private collections, will be auctioned next month. Before that, jewelry is on display at Sotheby's showroom at Dubai International Financial Center.

Sotheby's auction house describes jewelry as "one of the most important collections of jewelry ever to appear at auction."

The French Queen's collection includes a pendant made from natural pearls and diamonds, as well as necklaces, brooches and earrings worth from $ US 1.5 to $ US 3 million.

Marie Antoinette was the wife of King Louis XVI of the Bourbon Dynasty. They were both executed in 1793. The Queen's jewelry was exported from France to Vienna and stored in the Parma Bourbon family.

After Dubai, jewelry will also be exhibited in several other cities, including London, New York and Hong Kong, before auctioning off in Geneva in November.
