Arab Emirates open their borders to refugees

The United Arab Emirates will provide a temporary visa to people affected by war and natural disasters.

The UAE Cabinet of Ministers, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has adopted a resolution granting one-year residence permits to citizens of countries affected by wars and natural disasters. The UAE will offer such people a chance to improve their living conditions until they are ready to return to their home countries.

Citizens of countries participating in military conflicts and natural disasters will be granted an extension of the visa regardless of their living conditions from August 1 to October 31, 2018, and will also be exempt from fines imposed on them.

The new solution is part of the UAE's efforts to help those in need all over the world and to strengthen the country's position as a second homeland for representatives of all nationalities.

The decision also meets the country's principles in supporting the most vulnerable members of society and the position of the UAE as an active supporter of peace and stability, especially in the Arab region and the Persian Gulf region.
