300 rare number plates put up for auction in Dubai

Dubai authorities sell three hundred special car numbers at an online auction.

Dubai's Highway and Transportation Authority (RTA) is offering 300 four-and five-digit car numbers at the upcoming 52nd online auction. Registration of bidders begins today, February 25, and the auction itself will be held within five days from 8 am on March 4.

“Numbers sold at this auction will be subject to 5 percent VAT,” warns Sultan Al-Marzuki, director of vehicle licensing at RTA.

Participation in the auction requires that the client has an account on the RTA website. New users can register to bid. For a new registration, the user must have either a vehicle registered in Dubai or a driver’s license. To participate in the auction, it is necessary to provide to one of the special management departments in Umm Al Ramool, Bur Dubai, Deira or the Al Tawar Municipal Center the insurance amount by check, in accordance with the RTA order, in the amount of 5 thousand dirhams ($ US 1.36 thousand) .

Participants should also pay a fee of 120 dirhams ($ US 32.7).

The winner must deposit the appropriate amount within ten business days from the closing date of the auction in cash or by credit card. Failure to pay the required funds will lead to blacklisting of bidders, warns Sultan Al-Marzuki.

"A special team in the RTA call center has all the information related to the auction and is ready to answer any questions with the toll free number 8009090," added Al-Marzuki.
