Two new butterfly species found in UAE

Naturalists have discovered two new species of butterflies in the United Arab Emirates.

Two species of butterflies were first discovered in the UAE by local naturalists, who are preparing an exhaustive report on their find.

The total number of species known in the country is now 57.

Representatives of Catopsilia pyranthe are usually found in India, but they were found on the island of Al Nuor, in Khalid Lagoon in the emirate of Sharjah.

Zizula hylax is a very small butterfly from the African and Asian tropics. She was found in the urban area of Dubai.

The new butterflies probably arrived in the UAE along with the plants on which they were found. However, there is little chance that Zizula hylax could migrate north due to global climate change.
