Courts in the UAE will become smart by 2021

Courts in the United Arab Emirates will survive technological evolution over the next few years.

The UAE Ministry of Justice has launched four initiatives that will be implemented in the next four years to ensure fair and fast trials.

By 2021, the UAE judicial system will take a step forward in terms of technology with a transition to electronic litigation without the need for traditional sessions, videoconferencing during court hearings and a unified translation center that will connect translators with clerks and judges.

Sultan bin Saeed Al-Badi, the Minister of Justice, said that innovation and technology are the foundations of these initiatives, which are also responsible for the smart transformation of the country.

Through these initiatives, which are part of the UAE Vision 2021 strategy, the UAE aims to reach 10th level in the World Bank's Doing Business judicial efficiency index and 25th in the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index over the next four years. .

The UAE is currently ranked 25th internationally in terms of the effectiveness of its judiciary and 33rd in the rule of law index.

Al-Badi added that the initiatives were launched after conducting international visits and signing partnerships with international organizations such as the Hague Institute for the Internationalization of Law.

The ministry’s policy is based on the use of technology to facilitate access to justice, training the judiciary based on new criteria for the effectiveness and dissemination of legal culture in society.
