The first solar-powered gas station in the country has opened in the UAE

Enoc's new gas station in the United Arab Emirates is the first solar-powered gas-fueled positive gas station.

On Wednesday, Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) opened the country's first gas station operating with solar energy.

It is located on Shaikh Zayed Road near Internet-Media City. The station is covered with solar panels, which can generate up to 120 kilowatt hours. According to Enoc, this is 30% more than the station consumes, so excess power is sent to the city’s power system.

The UAE, the fourth largest oil producer among OPEC members, is working hard to become a center for renewable energy. Abu Dhabi hosts the United Nations International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena). Dubai and Abu Dhabi are building massive solar farms at home and abroad.

Regarding the environmental initiatives of the state corporation, Enoc uses a system for collecting harmful fumes emitted by fuel, actively uses solar panels, water recycling technology and other “green” initiatives.
