Travel industry will bring nearly US $ 20 billion to UAE economy this year

According to the forecasts of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), this year the hospitality industry will bring the economy of the United Arab Emirates US $ 19.9 billion. "The revenue of hotels in the United Arab Emirates is growing steadily despite financial unrest in Europe. The governments of the countries of the Arabian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have large amounts of money and consider hotels as one of the key areas for investment," said Chiheb Ben-Mahmoud , Executive Vice President and Chief Consultant, Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels in the Middle East and Africa.

The most significant public funds were invested in the expansion of the Dubai International Airport (US $ 68 million), thanks to which its throughput will increase to 90 million people by 2018. In addition to developing the air transportation sector, Dubai commissioned a second metro line last year and is preparing to implement the project for the construction of the first tram line, which is due to be commissioned in 2014.

Meanwhile, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, continues to strengthen the image of the capital of Abu Dhabi as a world tourist center, thanks to the implementation of such large projects as the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi amusement park, entertainment complexes on the islands of Yas and Saadiyat, as well as the construction of numerous museums and cultural heritage sites of the country.
