Street Art at Karama Market in Dubai

Unaccustomed to the idea that art is something that necessarily hangs on the wall in the gallery, eight street artists (two of whom are from the UAE) revived the historic district of Bur Dubai and Oud Metha Street, painting 24 huge murals with sharks, birds, lions, guitars on the walls of twelve apartment buildings and shops. "Once I told my customer that one day we will paint Dubai, make it a living city," said 33-year-old Malaysian artist Azrul Helmi Ben Ibrahim. “I always dreamed of waking up and looking out of the window not at dull dusty buildings, but at something colorful that would make me smile.” Artists hope that their work will attract tourists to this area of the city, will allow them to see street art or just make someone happier.
