The troupe of the Paris Opera will show the incomparable plotless ballet in three acts "Jewels" by George Balanchine in Abu Dhabi. The production was created as a tribute to the jewelry craftsmanship of Claude Arpels.
The music of the three great composers splendidly frames each action and reveals the essence of each jewel. It will be performed by one of France’s oldest symphony orchestras, the Pasdeloup Orchestra, under the direction of Benjamin Schwartz.
The actions of the ballet are unique in their staging and mood. The Emeralds tell the story of elegant France during the Romantic era. “Rubies" are bold and energetic, as if embodying the fun rivalry of Balanchine with Stravinsky. The last part, “Diamonds”, tells about the luxury and beauty of Tsarist Russia and expresses gratitude to the alma mater of the great choreographer - the Mariinsky Theater.
