Thousands of families spent holidays at the highest point of the UAE

Tens of thousands of people from the United Arab Emirates went to the mountains for the holidays.

More than 38 thousand people spent holidays on the occasion of Eid al Fitr on Jebel Jais, the highest point in the UAE, authorities in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah said.

Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al Hammadi, director of the department of public works and services of the emirate, said that about 9.5 thousand cars arrived in the mountains in the first two days of the holiday.

In addition to mountain houses and camping, families and individual tourists were attracted to public parks, hotels and other attractions of Ras Al Khaimah, he added.

According to Al Hammadi, the ministry has stepped up patrolling of the emirate's recreation areas to curb attempts to harm the environment. During the two days of the holidays, 226 violations were recorded. The culprits were fined 500 dirhams ($ US 136). In case of repeated violation, the penalty is doubled. Mostly inspectors punished people who threw garbage out of car windows.
