UAE will import only energy efficient devices

New regulations in the United Arab Emirates will save money for buyers of new household electrical appliances.

The UAE Office of Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) has developed a new national energy efficiency program.

In accordance with the requirements of this program, only energy-efficient devices can be imported into the country. For example, the TV Efficiency project, which has already been approved by the UAE Cabinet of Ministers, will dictate new requirements for imported TVs. It is expected that this will reduce the power consumption of televisions by about 50%, as well as reduce government subsidies.

Abdullah Al Maini, CEO of ESMA, said the project was prepared on the basis of a study of many regional and international laws and regulations. The regulation is consistent with the characteristics of television systems and European legislation to improve energy efficiency.

The project aims to educate residents and stimulate the acquisition of energy-efficient electronic devices. The implementation of the project has led to an increase in the efficiency of imported electrical appliances on the UAE market and a decrease in energy consumption.
