Dubai designers head to London Design Fair

Dubai’s most creative district sends eight designers to the London fair to tell them about the emirate’s design heritage.

Dubai Design District, d3, will hold another presentation, “UAE Design History,” this time at the London Design Fair, which will be held September 20–23, 2018 at Old Truman Brewery, E1.

The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Development of the UAE and is supervised by renowned designer Khalid Shafar.

Earlier, d3 already presented a presentation in Milan at Salone Del Mobile in April 2018. This time, eight designers are invited to participate in the event, who will tell the bright history of design in the UAE, shifting traditional art to modern projects.

After London, the exhibition will travel to Paris as part of a cultural dialogue program between the UAE and France, and then return to Dubai for the Dubai Design Week, which will be held from November 12 to 17, 2018.

Sheikh Salem Khalid Al Kassimi, assistant to the Deputy Minister of Knowledge Development, said: "The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development seeks to support initiatives like this that highlight the richness of the UAE's cultural and creative world."

Among the selected designers for the event are the architect Abdullah Almullah; jewelry designer Alia bin Omair; interior designer Alia Mazrui; multidisciplinary designers Aljut Luta and Salem Mansouri; sculptor and food designer Azza Al Qubaisi; interior designer Ruda Al Shamsi; and Ahmad Alarif, a Bedouin artist.
