Artificial Intelligence Protects Consumer Rights in Dubai

A new intelligent service has been launched in Dubai to address consumer complaints.

Dubai has launched the “smart consumer protection” service, which uses artificial intelligence to respond to consumer complaints and resolve problematic situations.

Dubai's Department of Business Compliance and Consumer Protection at the Department of Economic Development (DED) said the service is available in English and Arabic.

The portal engages consumers in a direct dialogue to understand the essence of the complaint, process the information collected, analyze data and immediately resolve it based on applicable policies and laws.

Consumers can access the service by downloading the Dubai Consumer app, available on Android and iOS mobile phones, or on the Dubai Consumer Protection website (www.consumerrights.ae).

Muhammad Ali Rashid Luta, general manager of the department, said: "DED is proud to be the first government agency to launch an artificial intelligence-based service to protect consumers."

“With the new service, we strive to increase consumer confidence in the local market and enable consumers to solve their problems at any time, quickly and efficiently,” he added.

The new service receives complaints 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and asks questions to collect information. Within a few minutes, the consumer receives a letter indicating the details of the complaint and instructions from the department. Then the consumer can submit a letter to the seller.

Luta said the company or seller must take the necessary action within seven days of receiving such a letter. If the seller does not comply with the requirements, the consumer can notify the same service about it, and the department will take the necessary measures against the seller, including penalties.
