Dubai authorities dispel rumors about mysterious street lamp stickers

Dubai authorities did not install sensors to track the intersection of pedestrian crossings at a traffic signal prohibiting signal and in the wrong place.

The Dubai Highway and Transportation Authority (RTA) has denied rumors from social networks that authorities installed “smart sensors” in the form of stickers on street lights.

An untrue report claimed that smart sensors would help the RTA track pedestrians crossing the road in the wrong place and fine them for 420 dirhams ($ 114), identifying the offender using an Emirates ID.

The Khaleej Times received a letter from the RTA stating that the messages distributed on social networks were untrue. Stickers contain only the serial number of each flashlight.
