Ruler of Sharjah allocated millions of dollars to increase the salaries of officials

Starting from the new year, the Sharjah government will increase the salaries of emirate officials and pensions for former government officials.

His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, on Thursday issued a decree on increasing the salaries of government employees of the emirate, additionally allocating from the budget 600 million dirhams (more than $ 160 million).

However, the salary increase, which will enter into force on January 1, 2018, applies only to UAE citizens who are classified at least grade 8.

According to the new decree, the monthly salary of a public service specialist who has graduated from university will be at least 18,500 dirhams, compared to 17,500 dirhams paid earlier.

Thus, 18,500 dirhams is the minimum monthly salary for a government official in Sharjah.

The increase in salary does not apply to officials below the 8th grade. It is worth noting that, by law, an employee can remain in the same class for no more than six years.

The minimum wage for first-class employees is 30 500 dirhams: 21 375 - the basic salary, 7 125 dirhams are paid as a living allowance.

A first-class employee is also entitled to other benefits, for example, he can receive a allowance of 2000 dirhams as a social subsidy. Without restrictions, all employees are paid a child allowance of 600 dirhams, as well as an annual benefit of 300 dirhams.

Full-time employees of the second class are entitled to receive social services. a package of 28,500 dirhams, employees of the third class 26,500 dirhams, fourth - 25,000 dirhams, payment of 21,500 dirhams is provided for the fifth class, 19,500 for the sixth, 18,500 for the seventh and eighth.

Dr. Tariq bin Hadem, head of the Human Resources Department, noted that the Ruler of Sharjah also ordered increased pensions for citizens who have worked for the government of the emirate.

"Funds will be additionally allocated from Sharjah’s budget to increase pensions for people who have worked in the emirate’s public service," Mr. Khadem said in an interview on the radio station. "Payments will be transferred to pensioners' bank accounts."
