The construction project was approved in Dubai for the first tram line in the UAE and the entire Arabian Peninsula that will connect the Jumeirah district with Mall of the Emirates. Construction is entrusted to a consortium of foreign companies.
In accordance with the project, called “As-Sufukh”, 19 stops will be built on a tram line that stretches for 14 kilometers in an elite area with a population of about half a million people.
A cheap mode of transport will greatly facilitate travel to the resort areas of Jumeirah and Dubai Marina, and will connect the best seaside hotels with the largest Dubai shopping center, university and information towns. The cost of building a tram line that will fit the Dubai metro is estimated at 4 billion dirhams (about $ 1.1 billion). The timing of the start of work, which will last more than two years, has not yet been announced.
