17 stations and 44 Dubai metro trains begin operation on September 9, 2009

A month before the launch of the first metro in the Persian Gulf region, the Dubai authorities said that on September 9, 44 trains that will serve 17 stations are scheduled to be launched along the red line of the Dubai Metro.

According to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the red line track connecting the Al Rashidiya end stations in Rashidiya and the Jebel Ali Free Zone to Jebel Ali, 52.1 km away, is fully prepared for commissioning.

At the first stage, from September 9, 44 trains will serve the "red" line. Within six months, their number will be brought to the planned 62 units. After the second green line is launched in March next year, the Dubai Metro will serve a total of 79 trains. From September, the planned load on the metro will be up to 6300 passengers per hour in each direction. To date, the operating company of the Dubai Metro Serco received 15 of the 29 stations of the "red" line. By September 9, it is planned to open at least 17 stations for passengers. The RTA representative said that the construction of some stations was delayed, but that they should be completed by the deadline, as agreed with the contractors.

It is already known that the following stations will start operating on September 9: Al Rashidiya, one station at Dubai International Airport, City Center, Al Rigga, Union Square and BurJuman, Al Karama, Al Jafiliya, Trade Center, DIFC , Burj Dubai, Nakheel Harbor and Towers (with a free parking terminal), Mall of The Emirates, Business Bay, Al Quiz, Dubai Inernet City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Jebel Ali Free Zone. The RTA called on all participants in the Dubai Metro construction project to mobilize their efforts to complete the work on time. Despite the delay in work in some areas, the launch of the Dubai Metro will take place in the previously established record period - only 49 months after the start of work, which could not be done in any city in the world.
