Margaux: the subtle taste of the Mediterranean

It’s sad to hear when guests and even residents of Dubai sometimes complain that they have nowhere to go and nothing interesting, unknown and untested by them.

Let me disagree. I dare to assure many skeptics that such a striking shopping and entertainment complex from all points of view as Souk Al Bahar, stylized in the traditional Arab market and located in the very "heart" of the new urban district Down Town Dubai at the foot of the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa, for many is a "blank spot" on the map. Meanwhile, amazing shops and souvenir shops are hiding there, and restaurants are warmly welcoming guests, which in quality and atmosphere reigning in them sometimes surpass the most "untwisted" hotel food outlets. One of these treasures is the Margaux restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine, which traces a clear French and Italian accent.

And all thanks to the work of two chefs Sebastian Didierzhin and Benoit Witz, as well as pastry chef Olivier Lanne. Margaux restaurant opened its doors for the first time in February 2009, and a year later it became a favorite place for casual lunches and dinners among residents of the surrounding areas. What is so attractive about him? Well, firstly, an excellent location opposite the world's largest “singing” fountain, Dubai Fountain, overlooking from the spacious Margaux terrace. Secondly, the general atmosphere, immersing you in a state of peace and bliss, inherent in lazy hours of relaxation in good company. Third, and most importantly, excellent cuisine and a quality wine cellar. Yes Yes! Do not be surprised. Margaux Restaurant is fully licensed, although it is not located at the hotel or one of the Dubai clubs. The main sommelier Johan Morel, who came to Dubai from France and collected an amazing collection of wines, the prices of which start at 150 dirhams and go up to the amount of 40 thousand UAE dirhams per bottle, successfully works in it. Here it is for an amateur or, more precisely, a connoisseur!

What is washed down with such wines, you ask? Wonderful Mediterranean dishes made with seasonal products, many of which can be safely attributed to haute cuisine. Suffice it to mention the French vegetable soup with dumplings stuffed with foie gras (goose liver), white and green asparagus, steamed and served with a delicate lemon sauce, sea bass with mashed potatoes, decorated with bacon chips, or Angus beef steak with garnished with boiled vegetables and pepper sauce.

You should definitely start your meal in Margaux with an aperitif. A cool and refreshing Raspberry Bellini cocktail (Raspberry Bellini) with champagne will do! For each of the dishes, sommelier Johan will select the wine of the desired shade and strength. Try not to miss Margaux specialties - a salad with mozzarella cheese with basil and tomatoes, Golden Risotto with saffron and golden leaves, or the best cheesecakes in town. Chocolate lovers will be served incredibly delicate soufflé with vanilla ice-cream, and those who care about their figure will enjoy tartki with a light orange cream. Well, of course, the most varied varieties of tea or coffee.

And the last one. The Margaux restaurant begins to operate daily at noon, and during the day it is usually not crowded. But now, if you are planning to sit on its terrace in the evening and enjoy the Dubai Fountain show, then you should take care to book a table in advance, because despite the fact that the restaurant has more than 250 seats in the hall and in the open air, the most convenient of them may be busy. You can enjoy the pleasant and friendly atmosphere in Margaux until late at night, you just need to remember that the kitchen accepts the last orders until 23.30.

Margaux prices are affordable and quality is beyond praise. Try it yourself. Enjoy your experience!
