Profession DJ

Text: Natalie Strail

DUBAI'S NIGHT LIFE IMPRESSES AND AMAZES! RESTAURANTS AND BARS - FOR ANY TASTE, OPEN LOUNGES, PRIVATE EXCLUSIVE PARTIES AND, OF COURSE, DIFFERENT NIGHT CLUBS AND "PARTIES" EVERY DAY AND EVERY NIGHT.

And always and everywhere fun is accompanied by music: sometimes lively, but most often remixes of talented DJs. “Talented?” Someone will be indignant or you will be surprised, “but nowadays everyone who is not too lazy or too lazy would like to work as a DJ! You twist yourself other people's music, you cross one another, you mix someone’s hits ...” However, stop! Not every DJ reaches heights.

Only those who have chosen this profession from many others, starting with the right education. Who not only has good hearing and a love of music (who does not have it?), But knows and feels how to get the audience alive, revitalize, impress and cheer her up. Not everyone is able to assemble stadiums and concerts with thousands of people. David Guetto, Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Pete Tong, Serge Devant are world famous celebrities.

I want to start introducing you to the talented residents of Dubai, who also deserve attention and respect. Go!

Dion Mavath

DJ, producer, promoter and simply male sex symbol of the Dubai music industry, has gained popularity not only due to its natural charm and ambitious nature, but also by its own melodic works.

Originally from Australia, Dion has been in love with music since he was 14 years old. Having received four higher educations (legal, managerial, commercial and in international relations), and having worked as a broker, he returned to his musical dream. Today, Dion is one of the most popular DJs in the Middle East with 20 years of experience. His name is also widely known on the world stages of Asia, Europe, Australia, America and Africa. The annual world tour and the release of the disc "Warrior" with his own works, which in a matter of days was included in the top ten in the world, greatly increased its popularity.

Drawing inspiration from life itself, career, success and love, Dion became a unique and talented producer, which allowed him to sign a contract with SONY and the famous singer Christina Aguilera.

Currently, the release of the second album of Dion is being prepared with its not so long ago created, but already become hits, house-tracks. It is not surprising that once again Dion was nominated for the title of “Best DJ of the UAE 2011”.

Blitz with Dion Mavat

Traveling around the world, which other country did you find most attractive for your work?

D.M .: Ibiza has always attracted me to Spain, being the epicenter of house music; Australia will always be my favorite place, as it is my home, my homeland; Well, America, which is just now beginning to show interest in the genre of "house".

Having experience working with world stars, who would you like to work with today?

D. M.: Of course, with Adele, I respect her for her creativity and ingenious vocals, as well as Will i Am and SEAL.

Places where you can enjoy Dion's music and work in Dubai: Amika Clubs on Tuesdays and Zink Clubs on Saturdays.

Greg Stainer

DJ, producer. Born in London. He began his musical career in the early 1990s, working on the stages of London clubs, achieving success solely thanks to his talent. In 2001, Greg began his work on BBC Radio.

His remixes and his own works were broadcast on many local radio channels and gained well-deserved popularity. In 2002, Greg decided to be closer to the sun and moved to Dubai, becoming the first DJ to introduce club electronic music to a local audience while working on local radio. Soon, Greg released his first solo album (2009) and patented his own brand "Stained Music". Greg’s music is vibrant. His tracks are played in more than 30 countries around the world, including the cities of India, South Africa, Sweden, China, Ireland and Singapore.

Greg is currently working on his second album, and is also nominated for the title of “Best UAE DJ 2011”.

Blitz with Greg Steiner

Greg, what do you think of the UAE's Best DJ nomination?

G.S .: I was nominated for the first time, and I think that this victory will definitely have a positive impact on my career.

Which countries do you plan to include in your next world tour?

G.S .: I would say that my tour is already in process. The next planned country is Holland, the "Dance Festival" in Amsterdam (Amsterdam Dance Event).

You can see Greg’s talented work in Dubai at the Zink Clubs (where he has been a leading DJ for many years), Armani Prive, Nasimi Beach and Trilogy.

Tim Kay

The love of music was instilled in Tim from childhood. Piano lessons, vocal lessons, participation in various orchestral groups in London - all this led to the fact that by the age of 16 Tim had created his first musical set and was simply absorbed in the rhythms of dance music.

Having reached adulthood, Tim won the audience of five thousand with his talent at the concert of the Brixton Academy, thereby conquering the summer scene in Ibiza. This was an important breakthrough on the path to conquering the world's most popular music venues. The next inevitably was Dubai! And this sunny paradise certainly inspired Tim Kay to release his own album, which did not leave indifferent not only the local audience, but also a world-famous DJ Roger Sanchez.

Tim Kay’s work is distinguished by his love of improvisation. He does not like to repeat the same sets and always creates, based on the mood of the audience.

Blitz with Tim Kay

Tim, what do you find the most impressive in life and work in Dubai?

T.K .: The sun, tax-free accommodation and security! I find this city the best for myself, at this stage of my life and career.

What would you like to achieve professionally in the near future?

T.K .: Now I am working hard on the album and plan to release it in mid-2012. Unless, of course, the end of the world comes! (laughs).

You can feel the heartbeat of Tim Kay at the clubs: "N-Dulge" (on Thursdays and Sundays) and "XL Beach Club" (on Fridays).

Charl Chaka

To say that Charles is talented means to say nothing. Living energy carried him in a whirlwind through the most elite clubs in London and the festivals of South Africa, where he himself came from. Despite the fact that he was passionate about DJing from the age of 18, he became really popular in 1999 when he won the DJ competition at the London Heaven club, thereby earning himself the privilege of working with Jason Moore and Nicky Holloway, thanks to whom he gained his invaluable experience. Charles has successfully performed at various festivals and shows (such as MTV and Lucky Strike) with thousands of audiences in South Africa. But in 2004, ambition and interest in the new threw Charl to the Emirates, where he is still absorbed in self-realization. Perseverance and talent brought another victory in competitions, strengthening the title of one of the best DJs and producers in the region.

It is not surprising that this year, Charles was nominated for the title of "Best DJ of the year." One of the important moments in his life was the proposal from the world recording studio “OM” for the release of albums in 2007, which reached the heights of popularity.

Enthusiasm and passion for music, as well as his indescribable energy, allowed Charl to become not only a well-known producer, a popular DJ, but also the director of the leading show business magazine in the Infusion Magazine region, which in itself is a creative empire in the local world of music and television.

Blitz with Charles Chuck

Charl, please tell me, having experience working in the most famous clubs around the world, which ones can you name the most favorite?

Ch. Ch.: Each city has its own uniqueness. Nevertheless, the clubs of London and Cape Town will always be at their best for me.

In Dubai, my favorites are Nasimi Beach and 360.

What do you think should be “worked out” in the music industry in Dubai?

Ch. Ch: The music industry in Dubai is quite developed, but I would pay attention to the structure of the local radio, its musical level and diversity.

You can see Charl’s energy at the clubs: Trilogy, Chi The Logde, and Nasimi Beach, as well as various music festivals.

Darko De Jan / Darko De Jan

Darko is a native of Macedonia and has a degree in forensics. His musical career began in the early 1990s in the most popular clubs in his native country. Darko is a musician with his own original style, combining deep European rhythms with increasing energy that will not allow anyone to sit still.

His tours took place in countries such as Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Sweden, Hungary, Spain, Holland, and, of course, his native Macedonia.

Having settled in Dubai, Darko began to create his own music, tracks and sets, which immediately burst into a whirlwind in the “Top 100” charts of Ibiza, Miami and Dubai.

It is not surprising that today Darko is the music director and leading DJ of one of the most fashionable and exclusive clubs in the city of Armani (Armani / Prive), located in the famous tower of Burj Khalifa (Burj Khalifa).

Blitz with Darko De Jan

Dark, where do you get so much inspiration that all your tracks and sets occupy leading positions in the world charts?

DD: I draw inspiration from many resources: everyday life, works of other producers, my knowledge of music, love for it, which originated many years ago. Reviews from other producers and big-name DJs also have a big impact on polishing my style.

Which country in the world would you easily choose as your next job?

D. D .: At the moment I spend a lot of time in the studio, and am very pleased with my work at Armani, but I would love to work in such hot spots as Ibiza, Singapore and Hong Kong.

You can dissolve into the rhythms of Darko’s music in the Armani Prive club.

Serhan Nassif - DJ S3R-Han

A native of Lebanon, a small but famous country for its vibrant nightlife, Serkhan worked as a DJ in many famous clubs in Beirut and its environs.

But after 6 years of work, Serkhan felt that he was becoming cramped in his native country, and in 2005 he moved to Dubai. He began his musical career here with the C-Bar club, quickly gaining the hearts of the Dubai public. Along with the work of the DJ, Serkhan successfully undertakes the work of organizing various events, both public and private. His love of music, as they say, is in his blood. He feels the beating of hearts and knows how to make them vibrate to the beat of the music, its rhythms. It doesn’t matter what he plays: electronic music, hip-hop or his favorite “house” - his remixes will not leave anyone indifferent.

It is not surprising that today Serkhan works for such a local "power" as the Habtoor Group.

Known for their immense popularity, the Horizon and XL Beach Club have become his second home since their opening. And an important role in the growth of this popularity was played precisely by professionalism, fine ear and musical memory of Serkhan.

Blitz with Serkhan Nassif

Serhan, what are you striving for in life, what is your goal?

S.N .: I would like to become an experienced producer.

In the clubs of which countries, except the Emirates, have you recently worked?

S.N .: This summer I managed to work in Saint-Tropez, in the south of France, and of course, in Lebanon, during my summer vacation.

You can experience the energy of Serhan’s music on yourself by visiting the clubs “Horizon” and “X-L” (“XL Beach Club”).

Marc Trowsdale - DJ MARKY MARC

Mark is from England. Ambition and a passion for music from an early age led him to become a unique professional in his field. Over the past 19 years, Mark has been working hard and constantly developing his not only practical skills as a DJ, but also technical, having a computer education in the broad sense of this profession. This is what allowed Mark to become a co-owner of the company for the holding and technical equipment of various events - from mini-conferences to large-scale concerts. Combining his favorite business with his useful business, while computerizing sound and light for major concerts and shows, Mark also enjoys working as a DJ on such legends as David Morales and Danny Rampling.

Mark's career as a DJ began with London clubs. Thanks to his love of travel, Mark was able to present his musical sets to the public of Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, France, Spain and America. But, once having worked with Jean-Michel Jaire himself at a concert near the pyramids in Cairo, Mark decided to try himself in the Middle East. Mark has been resident and working in Dubai for 3 years.

Blitz with Mark Trausdale

Mark, what could affect your return home to England?

M. T.: At the moment, I see no reason to return - I am happy with everything here.

Due to your professional knowledge of all the clubs in Dubai, which ones are your favorite?

M. T.: I will celebrate "Nasimi Beach" (especially pool parties), "Trilogy" (with its unique list of invited foreign DJs) and I think the new club "Mahiki", which will open in November, will also be on my favorite nightlife list.

Matthew Charles

Matthew showed a love of music as a teenager when he held discos on Fridays at a school youth club in a city in Scotland. Gradually gaining experience as a DJ at night, in the daytime, Matthew manages to graduate from the university with a degree in marketing.

By that time, he was successfully gaining a place of honor in the club’s “Bible” of Great Britain - the “M8” magazine, thanks to which he was able to work in Ibiza, the capital of nightlife in Europe. Upon returning home, Matthew lingers here for a short while, deciding to try himself in Dubai. It is here that he participates in the competition for the title of the best DJ in the region and wins, which becomes a pass ticket to the best local clubs of those times (and to this day) - “Trilogy” and “360”.

He was fortunate enough to work with such talents as Roger Sanchez, Eric Morillo, Pete Tong, David Morales, and many other big names, both in Dubai and in Ibiza.

Blitz with Matthew Charles

It seems that you have everything in life that you could wish for: a beautiful wife, two charming daughters, a favorite job and even two dogs! Is there something you still lack?

M. Ch.: With such a formulation of the question, it seems to me that there really is nothing more to desire. But, being a professional musician, or, as you call, a DJ, I always have the desire to improve my work and go to the next level. I feel the rhythm of nascent melodies in myself, and in my plans for the next eight months I will completely focus on it. You can say that I miss my own album, but so far I am satisfied with my first own work.

Then what are your plans for the future?

M. Ch.: In part, I have already answered this question. In addition to the above, I intend to strengthen my position in the local music scene, working at show events with a large audience, such as “Sandance”, and in the best clubs in Dubai - “Trilogy” and “Nasimi Beach” ").

You can merge with the remixes of Matthew in the clubs: “Trilogy” (“Trilogy”), “Chi” (“Chi The Lodge”).
