Dubai will host the longest desert marathon in the world

In the desert of Dubai this year will hold the longest ultramarathon in the world.

This year, Dubai will host the world's longest desert marathon at the recently launched Al Marmoom Nature Reserve.

Al Marmoom, opened in January, is 40 hectares of land, 10 square meters. km of wetland, 204 species of native birds, 158 species of migratory birds, 26 species of reptiles, nine species of mammals, 39 species of plants and more than 10 km of lakes, including Al Qudra Lakes.

The winner of the marathon will receive a cash prize of $ US 80 thousand, which is considered the largest in the world for an ultramarathon. All participants who reach the finish line will be awarded certificates and medals.

Said Khareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, said: “This is an endurance test for athletes, but more importantly, it is an event that will demonstrate the stunning beauty of Al Marmoom for five days.”

The main 270-kilometer marathon will be held for five days with four runs: two 50-kilometer and 70-and 100-kilometer.

A tent camp with medical care, water and other drinks will be organized near the lakes of the reserve.

The location of participants will be tracked using personal devices with an emergency call button for emergencies.

Water will be supplied at special stations every 10 km.

The event is open to runners over the age of 18 who are ready to confirm that their health condition meets the race requirements less than 30 days before the start of the marathon.
