Dubai introduces an innovative fee

The Dubai government has passed a law introducing two new government fees.

The government of Dubai introduces two new duties to attract budget funds. New fees will be levied on the provision of a wide range of public services.

On Monday, Sheikh Mohammed Ibn Rashid, the vice president and ruler of Dubai, passed a law that would pass an "Educational fee" of 10 UAE dirhams ($ 2.7), which will be used to finance educational and cultural projects in Dubai.

This fee will apply to all public services in Dubai, including the services of federal public services, the proceeds of which are directed to the treasury of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed also approved the “Innovation fee” of 10 dirhams, the proceeds of which will be directed to the development of “innovation projects and public involvement to support innovation processes”.

This fee will be levied on any "services provided by government", and the funds received will be transferred to the "Future Fund" of Dubai.

“Educational” and “Innovative” fees will not be refunded upon cancellation of public services, and transactions of less than 50 dirhams do not fall under duties.

The fee is not subject to medical services provided by government departments, as well as fines for violation of traffic rules.

The exact date of introduction of the fees is not disclosed. According to the authorities, the law will be effective from the date of its publication in the official Government Gazette.
