The most expensive camel

Dirham 10 million (over $ 2.7 million) was paid for the camel by the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad Al Maktoum. He set an absolute record for the value of a camel in the UAE. The animal was bought at the camel beauty festival, in the city of Zayed in the Western region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The camel belongs to the breed “Majahim,” in the local dialect called Mayagim with the Ukrainian pronunciation of the sound “g”. The name means "dark" in the translation.

Animals of this breed have a very beautiful dark brown color and are distinguished by a special grace, a proud fit of the head, the beauty of the neck, back, lightness of the front legs, called here “hands”, and the strength of the hind limbs.

Mayagim are not used in traditional camel races and are grown for wool, milk and meat. In beauty contests, they participate separately from camels of light colors, which are inferior to them in magnificence of appearance. In the traditional annual festival of camel beauty in the city of Zaid, more than 10 thousand camels of light and dark colors participate. Their total cost is estimated by local experts at one billion dirhams (over 270 million dollars).

In an exhibition covering an area of 10 square meters. kilometers involved three thousand livestock breeders from all the Arabian oil-producing monarchies. The organizing committee of the festival allocated 35 million dirhams ($ 9.5 million) for prizes and allocated 100 cars. The visiting prince of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, when visiting the exhibition, added an unnamed amount from his own funds to her budget in order to double the number of prize winners. It should be said that the emirate prizes are not the most generous. In neighboring Qatar, for example, the winners of camel competitions are awarded with gold rifles and “land cruisers,” which is generally natural, since the richest sheikhs have the most thoroughbred camels, and you won’t surprise them with a simple gift “Audi”.

Now, the 25-year-old Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan has something to show to connoisseurs of camel beauty, there is something to be proud of.
