BEAUTY AND WOMAN OF DEBOR Najar Jussa, Head of the Middle East Division of Jewelery Jewelery at BONHAMS AUCTION HOUSE, HAS ALREADY RECENTLY ACCEPTED ITS DUTIES. AND BECAUSE IT IS PERFECTLY UNDERSTANDED IN MODERN AND OLD JEWELRY JEWELERY, IT WAS INSTRUCTED TO FORM A COLLECTION FOR THE BONHAMS JEWELRY AUCTION, WHICH WILL HAPPEN IN DONUBA. ABOUT DIAMONDS, AUCTIONS AND PASSION FOR JEWELERY WE ARE INTERVIEWED WITH A GOOD.
Deborah, please tell me what brought you to Bonhams after working with jewelry companies such as Boucheron, De Beers and others?
Auction House Bonhams was founded in 1793 and during its existence has managed to build and maintain a solid reputation, thanks to its superiority and integrity. Today, having offices in 25 countries of the world with more than 50 specialized departments and conducting about 700 tenders a year, Bonhams House is one of the leading auction houses in the world, and it is a great honor for me to work in it.
When did you first feel the passion for jewelry and precious stones?
It happened in childhood. When I was very young, my Colombian grandmother, as far as I remember, always wore beautiful jewelry, especially emeralds. From her, I probably passed on a passion for jewelry. After I was lucky to build my career in the field of jewelry, and now I enjoy what I like so much every day.
What do buyers of classic and antique jewelry usually look at at auctions?
Collectors are always trying to find something beautiful and unusual, rare or even exceptional. We, in turn, must surprise and be able to present new items to the market both from well-known jewelry houses and from modern designers. Of course, the most important criterion is the magnificent work of a jeweler and the beauty of precious stones.
How do you select and deliver jewelry collections for auction? What are the basic requirements for lots? What sets the Bonhams House apart from the rest?
One of the keys to our success is selecting the right items to bid. We usually make appointments with collectors, either by inviting them to our office on Jumeirah Beach Road in Dubai, or by visiting their homes around the world on our own. This is a very simple and enjoyable process - we meet, evaluate the jewelry of one or another collector, and put up the starting price for the auction. Of course, we try to find the best and most beautiful, rare or unique jewelry that is distinguished by the most skillful work.
What do you plan to bid during the next Bonhams jewelry auction in Dubai?
A wide selection of diamonds - from classic pieces that are in high demand today, to original jewelry, as well as several “jewelry” watches and many luxurious gems: rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
Can you give any special advice to those buyers who want to invest in antique jewelry?
We always encourage our customers to follow these three important rules. First, before buying anything, read the catalog and ask for an act of technical condition, which should be provided to you by one of our specialists, who compiled information about the product you are interested in. Second, buy the best item you can afford and always pay attention to quality. And, third, be sure to try on jewelry, as jewelry is always a very personal purchase. We usually invite buyers to preview auction lots, which takes place two days before the auction at the One & Only Royal Mirage Hotel. There you can find jewelry that you liked and that you want to purchase.
Are there any of the true masterpieces in your collections? What will be the main lot of bidding?
We keep it secret for now!
What are your main markets?
The Bonhams office in Dubai is responsible for the entire region of the Middle East, the Levant and the Indian subcontinent. But due to the fact that Dubai is such an international city, we have formed an international clientele here. Among our buyers there are many collectors of art from Russia, so we hope that they will like our jewelry collections.
What, in your opinion, are the most fashionable trends in the modern jewelry market?
We continue to observe a high demand for products in the Art Deco era, of course, diamonds, as well as jewelry with autographs of the authors, since there is nothing better for collectors than buying jewelry with an eternal signature.
Can I have a look at your jewelry collections before the auction?
Yes, this is possible at a pre-bid preview or by appointment at our office located in Bonhams Villa on Jumeirah Beach Road.
What are your future plans?
Our first auction is scheduled for September 28, 2011. Further, we plan to hold jewelry auctions in Dubai twice a year.
Thanks, Deborah. See you at the auction.
